SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs advanced medical assistant duties including identifying and resolving concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines. Provides direct clinical support to one or more clinicians and offers backup coverage for support staff. Works to improve clinical efficiencies by managing walk-ins, add-on patients, and consults. Provides both clinical and clerical support, possibly supporting multiple departments.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC). Medical Assistant Certification required. An Associate degree in medical assisting or graduation from a medical assistant certification program is preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on the specialty.

EXPERIENCE

Typically three years of clinical experience, with at least one as a Medical Assistant. A bachelor’s or associate degree may substitute for one year of experience. Computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets required. EMR experience or aptitude is necessary.

SKILLS

Professional communication skills, strong interpersonal and customer service skills, effective time management, and organizational abilities are essential. Ability to think quickly and relate well to staff and patients is highly important. Must be able to prioritize tasks in a busy environment.
