Overview
Position assists Physicians and Nurses with patient care to include triage and stocking supplies. Also prepares patients for provider visits and assists providers with procedures. Position includes responsibility to assist with front and back-office procedures to include scheduling appointments, checking in and out patients.

Responsibilities
- Reviews list of patients coming in for next day’s appointments and obtains any missing clinical information prior to the visit.
- Phone triage and assist in calling patients & pharmacies to relay prescriptions, advice, or instructions for the providers.
- Take vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure; records in electronic health record.
- Chaperons and assists providers and nurses as requested.
- Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms, cleans and sterilizes instruments.
- Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies; inventory and submit reorder requests to office manager.
- Checks EMR tasks daily.
- Teaches patients how to use insulin pens and meters.
- Gives injections under the supervision of the nursing staff.
- Performs departmental employee respirator fit testing and coordinates with Environmental Services.
- Performs specialized ancillary testing (e.g., Bone Density Testing).
- FRONT DESK:
- Answers incoming telephone calls and facilitates patient needs as appropriate. Also responsible for taking messages in the electronic health record, paging doctors when appropriate, and answering inquiries.
- Schedules patient appointments when needed.
- Obtains and scans referrals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
Qualifications
High school diploma plus successful completion of a Medical Assistant program. Equivalent military training will be accepted. Must have certification (CMA or RMA). Completion of BLS class and re-certification every 2 years. Medical assistant experience required. Customer service-oriented individual is required.
Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks. Able to make professional decisions and have the qualifications and knowledge to support it. Must have knowledge of computers. Customer service-oriented individual is required. Three years of medical assisting experience working in a physician office preferred.
At least one year of experience in a “fast-paced” medical office/clinical area is required.
