Job Description:

Position Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient flow of patients through the health care setting by facilitating examination and treatment of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service. They contribute to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and assisting physicians, nurses, other medical staff, and support staff.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
  1. Accurately schedule tests; obtain films and reports; prepare laboratory specimens according to policy.
  2. Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare team members in planning and implementing patient care; may record patient history elements for clinical review.
  4. Electronically submit, call, or fax prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  5. Ensure data for completed procedures is recorded properly in medical records.
  6. Maintain medical records, ensure documentation is complete, distribute reports, and handle forms related to medical charts.
  7. Keep examination rooms clean and organized; stock supplies and check equipment logs.
  8. Perform clerical duties including greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance processing, and billing.
  9. Perform simple procedures as directed by nurses or physicians, including vital signs and screening procedures.
  10. Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies as required by the department.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Graduate
  • One or more years of Medical Assistant experience OR
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA or NRCMA)
Required Licensure and Certification:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
