What You'll Do

The objective of the Media & PR Manager is to drive the League's media strategy to enhance visibility, engagement, and public awareness of the NBL.

In this role, you will :

Media Relations & Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive media strategy that delivers significant increases in coverage year-on-year
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, broadcasters, and media organisations across all platforms
  • Proactively pitch compelling stories to increase coverage of NBL games, players, and events
  • Serve as the primary media contact, managing all inquiries and effectively handling crisis communications

Content Creation & Distribution

  • Develop engaging media releases and assist with promotional materials that maintain the League's brand voice
  • Collaborate on multimedia content that highlights player milestones and League narratives
  • Manage live event coverage including press conferences and interviews, ensuring real-time updates

Strategic Communications & Digital Engagement

  • Align communications with overall League messaging to produce cohesive campaigns for major events
  • Implement strategic plans for significant milestones that ensure significant engagement increases
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage to refine strategies with actionable insights
  • Work with digital teams to amplify stories and maintain consistent messaging across all platforms
  • Provide media relations support and best practices to clubs
  • Help facilitate player-focused storytelling opportunities to build personal brands and increase fan engagement
  • Amplify club initiatives to drive audience growth across all teams

What You Bring

Essential Experience and Skills :

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years' proven experience in media relations, preferably in sports or entertainment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to craft compelling narratives
  • Strong organisational abilities to manage multiple projects under pressure
  • Deep understanding of the sports media landscape and digital platform trends
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

Nice-to-Haves :

  • Experience working with athletes or within a sports organisation
  • Familiarity with basketball culture and the NBL's role in Australian sport
  • Proficiency with content creation tools and social media management platforms
  • Creative mindset with a flair for innovative storytelling
