Job summary

Sidney Stringer Academy is seeking a dynamic Media & Performing Arts Technician to support the Performing Arts Department with sound production, rigging, lighting, and AV setup. The role also covers photo/video work and social media content creation for school projects and events.

The candidate should have GCSE English and Maths and ideally qualifications in performing arts or media, plus experience in theatre or school settings. Lifting and working at height are required.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Desirable: qualifications in performing arts or media.
  • Experience in technical theatre or school environments.
  • Able to work at height and perform heavy lifting.
  • Strong IT and media tech skills across photo/video and AV equipment.
  • Ability to organise and manage media content for display.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical service including sound production, rigging, lighting, and AV equipment operation.
  • Support creation and administration of the school’s media output (photos/videos, social media).
  • Assist in setup and maintenance of venues for performances and events.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure safe, effective media delivery and presentations.

Job description

We currently have a new opportunity for a dynamic and flexible Media & Performing Arts Technician to join our team.

Job overview

To support the Performing Arts Department by providing technical service including sound production and engineering, rigging, focusing and programming of lighting systems and use of audio-visual equipment. To also support the creation and administration of the school’s media output including social media, photography and videography.

The right candidate will have:
  • Minimum GCSE or equivalent in English and mathematics
  • Qualifications in performing arts or media is desirable
  • Experience of technical work within a theatre, entertainment or school environment
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring working at height (e.g., rigging) and heavy lifting.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in IT, media technology, digital film recording/editing equipment, including Apple Mac/PC computers, GarageBand, photography equipment, projector setup, presentations, and specific theatre industry design programmes
  • Ability to organise and manage media content (photos/videos) for display
