Zusammenfassung

Meatly is seeking a Media Optimisation Scientist to advance media formulations for cultivated meat production. You will design systematic screening studies, develop serum-free and defined media, and collaborate with process development to ensure compatibility with production workflows.

Role requires deep understanding of cell nutrition, DoE or similar systematic methods, and strong data analysis skills in Python/R.

Qualifikationen

• Degree in biochemistry, cell biology, biotechnology, bioprocess science, or closely related discipline; MSc preferred
• Strong practical experience in mammalian cell culture and understanding of media requirements
• Experience in cell culture media development, optimisation, or component screening
• Experience applying design of experiments (DoE) or systematic multi-variable optimisation
• Familiarity with cell culture analytics including viability assays, metabolite measurement, osmolality
• Good quantitative data analysis skills using Python, R, Excel or equivalent
• Strong written communication skills and SOP/documentation
• Experience developing serum-free or chemically defined media formulations for mammalian cell culture
• Experience in cultivated meat, cell-based foods, or alternative protein sector
• Knowledge of media cost modelling or evaluating components against COG targets
• Experience with analytical techniques for media characterisation (metabolomics, amino acid profiling, or HPLC)
• Exposure to UK novel food regulatory frameworks (FSA/FSS) for media components
• Experience in early-stage biotech or translational research environment

Aufgaben

• Design and execute systematic screening experiments to evaluate media components on cell growth and metabolic performance
• Apply cell-based assays to interrogate multi-component media formulations and interactions
• Develop and test serum-free and chemically defined media focused on cost reduction and regulatory compliance
• Investigate media feeding strategies with process development team
• Compare commercial basal media, supplements, and raw materials for performance and cost differences
• Develop analytical methods for nutrient profiling, pH/osmolality, and media stability
• Support routine QC testing of media batches and raw materials
• Investigate media-related quality deviations and perform root-cause analysis
• Contribute to in-process controls and release testing criteria for media in production
• Design and execute cell culture experiments to evaluate new/modified media formulations
• Interpret growth, metabolism, viability, and product quality data to relate formulation to biology
