As a Media Briefing Meteorologist, you will work in a team of experienced forecasters, providing specific meteorological services to the media sector. These services will be delivered, primarily, by giving briefings, both written and verbal/in person, to the client. The role will primarily be based remotely on the client’s premises, in central London, but will allow some flexible working arrangements too. The role is supported by our European Weather Hub in Utrecht, Netherlands.

There will also be opportunities to work, at times, on products for other sectors, potentially including energy and transport, depending on requirements.

Since the weather is a 24/7 business you will be working in shifts, including weekends, evenings and nights. We are looking for someone who enjoys working together with a team of energetic and creative colleagues, all over the world. Please note that this is a full-time role, with an initial fixed term of one year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce and deliver forecasts and forecast briefings to a major media client, both in person and remotely, via video conferencing
• Analyze and interpret model output, and make edits to such output when required, in order for the on-screen forecast graphics to tell the weather ‘story’
• Take part in Editorial meetings with the client, and actively contribute ideas and content to such meetings
• Give historical context to major weather events, and real-time updates as such events unfold
• Give guidance on global weather events and news stories
• Take occasional shifts for other departments, including Energy and Transport

What you bring to the role:

• You have a Meteorology or related degree, and over 3 years of relevant experience
• Experience with media weather forecasting, including general news knowledge and the media treatment of weather stories
• Preferably, experience in giving weather briefings to an audience
• Excellent knowledge of UK weather, good knowledge of European and Global weather, including the typical impacts of major weather events
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English
• Good organizational and accuracy skills and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• A strong supportive team player

The targeted hiring base pay range for this position is between £28,500 and £38,000. DTN is a pay for performance organization, which means there is the opportunity to advance your compensation with performance over time. The actual base pay offered for this position will be dependent upon many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, training/education, transferable skills, business needs, internal equity and applicable laws. The targeted hiring base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for market competitive variable pay and benefits.
