Job summary

Overview

Working within SO15 and reporting directly to one of our Media and Communication Managers, the Media and Communications Officer will work on and support priority communications programmes and projects that contribute directly to SO15's three missions: Counter Terrorism Investigations, Countering State Threats and War Crimes.

You will be part of a highly motivated communications team within SO15, working with and supporting other senior colleagues on important public safety and national security issues. You will also have the opportunity to contribute your own ideas for communications activity that supports wider organisational and operational objectives.

The post holder will help to plan, manage, deliver, evaluate and continually improve SO15's communications. You’ll help us to make best use of our communication channels, support the team in developing compelling content that tells the story across our three missions, and keep communities safe from terrorism. You’ll also play an active role in the wider communications profession within the Command, supporting initiatives that improve effectiveness and how we work.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage, deliver, evaluate and continually improve SO15's communications.
  • Make best use of communication channels and develop compelling content across SO15's three missions.
  • Tell the story of the work across Counter Terrorism Investigations, Countering State Threats and War Crimes.
  • Support wider essential administrative duties as required.
  • Contribute to wider communications initiatives, including learning and development, testing and exercising.
  • Collaborate with and support other senior colleagues and the wider national Counter Terrorism Policing communications network.
  • Promote inclusion, diversity and equality within the team and in communications work.
Qualifications
  • Motivated individual with some experience in communications or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of how communications strategies and plans are developed; experience supporting a range of operational and organisational priorities.
  • Ability to carry out a range of tasks to help plan, develop and implement communications activity.
  • Positive and proactive approach; able to manage own work against plans and milestones and act promptly to ensure activity stays on track and outcomes are delivered.
  • Keen interest and working understanding of different communications techniques and channels.
  • Willingness to contribute to wider initiatives and professional development within the network.
