Job description

Our long-term client based in Horsham is looking for a Part Time Mechanical Workshop Engineer – 3 days a week, 22.5 hours. The salary is pro-rata of GBP 30,000 – GBP 35,000. Good company benefits, parking available, and close to rail/bus routes.

They are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for disassembling, repairing, assembling, and testing mechanical components, especially those involving hydraulic and pneumatic systems. A strong understanding of material selection, functional testing, and quality compliance is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Disassemble mechanical components to assess damage and identify repair requirements.
  2. Determine appropriate materials and methods to be used during the repair process.
  3. Perform repairs according to approved Repair Instructions and Component Maintenance Manuals:
  • Conduct functional testing of components, with a focus on hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Reassemble components after repair or overhaul, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Execute "Reduce to Produce" activities to support component recovery and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain and report operational data daily, weekly, and monthly as required.
  • Manage the calibration process for tools and equipment in accordance with quality standards.
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot mechanical failures and suggest improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards across all activities.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
    • Proven hands-on experience with hydraulic systems and components.
    • Familiarity with pneumatic systems and testing protocols.
    • Solid understanding of mechanical repairs, material selection, and calibration processes.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
    • Experience in a regulated industry (aviation, automotive, etc.) is preferred.
