Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Tester
Location: Barton Under Needwood
Shifts: Days only
Hours: 44 hours per week

Monday to Thursday: 7 am - 5 pm
Friday: 7 am - 1 pm
Duration: Long-term contract with a strong possibility of a permanent position.
Start Date: Immediate
Industry Background: Rolling stock experience preferred.

Company Overview:
A leading manufacturer and front-line supplier of powertrain products across the UK and Ireland, specializing in Engine Overhaul, Final Drive Overhaul, and Locomotive Refurbishment.

Role Overview:
This role involves the testing and validation of Rail Engines, Transmissions, Powerpacks, and Cooler Groups. A rolling stock background is required, along with a basic understanding of computers for data entry and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Install components into test cells and conduct production power product testing following work instructions.
  2. Ensure products meet the required testing standards.
  3. Accurately record and maintain test data for full traceability.
  4. Keep all documentation up to date and properly recorded.
  5. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults.
  6. Collaborate with production teams to resolve technical issues.
  7. Work effectively as part of a team.
  8. Collect failure data and provide feedback to Engineering.

Candidate Requirements:
Background in rolling stock - prior testing experience is not essential; mechanical fitters with relevant skills will be considered.
Basic computer proficiency - ability to upload test reports.
Ideally, an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a mechanical discipline.
