We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Test Technician to join our Technology Development team in Blyth. This hands-on role is key to ensuring the successful delivery of testing activities that help advance renewable energy technology.

Position:

As a Mechanical Test Technician, you will be responsible for supporting, installing, operating, and maintaining test equipment and mechanical systems across our Blyth facilities. You will play a key part in preparing and running test campaigns, ensuring all activities are delivered to the highest safety and quality standards.

This is a practical, varied role with opportunities to work across mechanical, hydraulic, and multi-skilled systems, requiring flexibility, problem-solving, and a proactive mindset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, operate, and demobilise test equipment in line with engineering documentation and safety requirements.
  • Support engineers in delivering customer test plans within time and budget.
  • Set up test pieces and supporting systems to required standards.
  • Carry out fault-finding, maintenance, and routine inspections on mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Operate hydraulic systems and torque/tensioning equipment.
  • Mentor apprentices and trainees, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Supervise contractors and ensure visitors are fully briefed on site safety.
  • Actively contribute to health, safety, and environmental standards across the site.
  • Support improvements to testing techniques, facility operations, and processes.
Requirements

We are seeking a proactive and adaptable technician who enjoys practical, hands-on work in a dynamic environment. You should be confident with mechanical and hydraulic systems, able to troubleshoot effectively, and committed to high standards of safety and quality.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Time-served Mechanical or Multi-skilled Technician/Engineer with current practical installation and maintenance experience.
  • Minimum ONC in Mechanical/Multi-Skilled Engineering or industry equivalent.
  • Experience with torque/tensioning equipment, gauges, sensors, and measuring equipment.
  • Hydraulic installation and system operation experience.
  • Competent with hand and power tools.
  • Experience in installation, maintenance, and general repair of plant and machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE practices, including risk assessments and method statements.
Desirable
  • Higher-level qualifications (ONC/BTEC Level 3/HNC).
  • MJI 10, 18, 19 or equivalent.
  • Forklift truck and overhead crane certificates.
  • IPAF MEWP (3a/3b), Telehandler, or Slinger/Banksman licences.
  • Lift Supervisor qualification.
  • Welding or machining (milling/lathe) experience.
  • Experience in renewable energy or test environments.

Other information
Working Environment

This role is based across our Blyth facilities and test sites. You will predominantly work indoors but may be required to work outdoors in varied weather conditions. Some tasks may involve working at height or in confined spaces. Flexibility is key, with occasional requirements for shifts, callouts, and standby cover.
