Job summary

AWD online is seeking a Mechanical Technician / Workshop Technician in Bristol to join a busy workshop. You will inspect, service and repair tools and equipment, learning to diagnose faults across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.

With structured in-house and external training, you will build practical skills, work safely in a team, and contribute to equipment readiness for hire. Monday–Friday, 7:00am–4:30pm, with overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Mechanically minded with practical aptitude and confidence using tools.
  • Ability to understand how mechanical equipment works and learn fault finding through training.
  • Hands-on, safe and high-quality workmanship.
  • Willing to assist with inspections, loading/unloading as part of the wider operation.
  • Able to prioritise work in a busy environment with a strong work ethic.
  • Able to perform physical, hands-on duties when handling tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, service, maintain and repair tools and equipment in the workshop to a high standard.
  • Identify and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults with training help.
  • Prepare equipment for hire, perform safety checks, ensure items are safe and ready for customer use.
  • Inspect returned equipment for damage, missing items and cleanliness; report defects.
  • Record servicing and repair work accurately using maintenance systems.
  • Assist with safe loading/unloading of plant and equipment and day-to-day workshop tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, safe workshop and work with colleagues to meet demand and deadlines.
  • Participate in structured learning and development to build skills.

Mechanical Technician / Workshop Technician

A great opportunity for a mechanically minded, practical person who enjoys working with tools and equipment to build their skills in a busy workshop. Direct tool hire experience is not essential: transferable mechanical ability, a hands-on approach and the willingness to learn are key, with structured training and development provided.

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician / Workshop Technician who enjoys practical problem-solving and wants to develop their skills while working on a varied range of small hire equipment, pipe welding tools and general power tools.

The Mechanical Technician / Workshop Technician will inspect, service, maintain and repair equipment, learning to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults while ensuring items are safe and ready for hire.

Previous experience in a Tool Fitter role is not essential. The position could suit someone from an adjacent mechanical, engineering, maintenance or workshop background, or a practically capable candidate with strong mechanical aptitude and confidence using tools and equipment.

With structured in-house and external training available, the Mechanical Technician / Workshop Technician can build technical knowledge while contributing to a busy, safety-focused workshop team.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Mechanical Technician / Workshop Technician include:

  • Inspection, Servicing and Repair: Inspect, service, maintain and repair tools and equipment in the workshop to a high standard
  • Fault Diagnosis: Identify and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults, using training and guidance where required
  • Hire Preparation and Safety: Prepare equipment for hire, complete safety checks and ensure items are safe, compliant and ready for customer use
  • Returned Equipment Checks: Inspect returned equipment for damage, missing items and cleanliness, reporting defects or discrepancies
  • Maintenance Records: Record servicing and repair work accurately using the company’s maintenance systems
  • Loading and Workshop Support: Assist with the safe loading and unloading of plant and equipment and support day-to-day workshop operations
  • Housekeeping and Teamwork: Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop and work with colleagues to meet customer demand and deadlines
  • Training and Development: Take part in structured learning and development to build technical knowledge and practical repair skills
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
  • Mechanically minded with strong practical aptitude and confidence using tools and equipment
  • Able to understand how mechanical equipment works and develop fault-finding and repair skills through training
  • Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to work carefully, safely and to a high standard
  • Willing to assist with equipment inspections, workshop tasks and loading or unloading as part of the wider operation
  • Able to prioritise work in a busy environment with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Able to carry out the physical, hands-on duties required when working with tools and equipment
DESIRABLE
  • Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, servicing, repairs, engineering, fitting or a workshop environment
  • Previous tool hire or hire equipment experience
