Job description

About the role:
We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at Wargrave Sewage Treatment Works (STW). Your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works operates safely and efficiently through proactive and reactive maintenance methods, helping to keep the site running smoothly.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, actively contributing to pollution reduction from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician
  • Investigate plant failures and perform repairs promptly to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and managing repairs during incidents.
  • Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees as needed.
  • Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, VSDs, valves, measurement instruments, PLCs, drives, and chemical dosing equipment.
  • Complete statutory checks as required.
  • Always adhere to health and safety guidelines and procedures.
What you should bring to the role
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A valid driving license.
  • Experience in electrical systems, ideally with an 18th Edition qualification (not essential).
  • Physical fitness for working in confined spaces, with appropriate training.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards.
  • Experience as a time-served apprentice with a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 standby rota after training, with additional pay.
Base Location

Wargrave - RG10 8DJ

Working Pattern

38 hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, with standby and overtime opportunities, potentially increasing earnings by £8,000-£10,000 annually after training.

All PPE, tools, van, and fuel card are provided.
