Job summary

DP World at London Gateway Port in Stanford-le-Hope is seeking Vehicle/HGV and Plant Maintenance / Mechanical Technicians for a 24/7 operation with 12-hour day and night shifts. You will work in a dynamic automotive environment with quay cranes and various vehicles, contributing to proactive maintenance and safe operations.

Ideally you bring NVQ Level 3 and hands-on experience with engines, gear boxes, hydraulics, and lifting equipment, plus a solid understanding of HSE regulations.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (City & Guilds) as minimum
• Experience in Automotive maintenance (Vehicle/HGV/LGV) environments
• Knowledge of gearboxes, engines, hydraulics and lifting equipment
• Understanding of electrical basics and safety regulations (HSE) related to maintenance

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventive maintenance and repair works per safety standards to minimise downtime
• Perform mechanical repairs on plant equipment (engines, gear boxes, hydraulics/pneumatics, pumps, bearings)
• Collect data during work and report to Engineering Planners
• Supervise contractors during delivery/commissioning and ensure safe practices
• Support development and updating of method statements and risk assessments
• Lead by example to promote safe working practices
• Coordinate with Stores and Asset Managers to maintain inventory
• Continuously look for improvements to productivity and equipment performance
• Ensure work adheres to HSE and corporate criteria for availability and safety

The good news is, this means that in a 2-week period, you will work 7 shifts and have every other weekend off! About The Role

• To competently carry out preventive maintenance and repair works, in accordance with company safety standards and to minimise equipment downtime.
• Carry out mechanical repairs to plant equipment covering engines, gear boxes, hydraulics/pneumatics, pumps, bearings etc
• Collect data/information while carrying out work on any asset and provide to Engineering Planners
• Manage and supervise contractors during delivery and commissioning of equipment or while working on any asset, ensuring safe working practices are followed.
• To support the development, improvement and updating of method statements and risk assessments for any preventive maintenance or repairs carried out on any asset
• Lead by example and encourage others to implement and improve safe working
• Work closely with the stores and Asset Managers to maintain inventory and stock levels.
• Continuously innovate and improve to ensure optimal productivity and equipment performance.
• To perform job safely and effectively while according to HSE and corporate criteria. Maintain high standards for equipment availability, dependability, and safety in accordance with the Company's aims and objectives.

What Will You Bring.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• National Qualifications Framework – Minimum Level 3 Qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds etc.
• Working in Automotive industries as a Vehicle Technician/HGV/LGV technician or associated roles would be great experience to hold for this role.
• Excellent knowledge of equipment maintenance ideally with experience of some or all of the following:
• Gear Boxes
• Engines
• Hydraulics
• Lifting equipment
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering
• Excellent knowledge of equipment maintenance/engineering.
• Experience and knowledge of HSE regulations related to equipment maintenance and activities
