Job summary

Johnson Matthey Plc is seeking a Mechanical Technician for a shift-based role in Royston, Hertfordshire. The position is on-site and operates a 12/7 shift pattern.

You will perform preventative maintenance, perform fault-finding on mechanical systems, and support installation and commissioning of equipment on a COMAH site. Ideal candidates bring extensive mechanical maintenance experience in chemicals/manufacturing, with strong knowledge of safety permits and P&ID diagrams.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in industrial environments.
• Ability to read and interpret piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID) and technical manuals.
• Strong fault-finding and repair skills for mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of LOTO and permit-to-work systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver preventative and proactive mechanical maintenance on site equipment.
• Handle reactive/corrective maintenance and fault repair safely and efficiently.
• Install, calibrate and commission new mechanical equipment and systems.
• Support reliability improvements to reduce downtime and improve asset performance.

You’ll help tackle the world’s biggest challenges - cutting emissions, powering modern society and enhancing lives - as we continue to apply, refine and recycle metals that matter, for a healthier and more resilient future.As a mechanical Technician, you will join an established Mechanical Team within our top tier COMAH site, this role requires an experienced Industrial Mechanically biased maintenance technician who is able to demonstrate and execute a wide range of practical Mechanical skills, ranging from basic workshop skills including fabrication of pipework, steelwork, and plastics to working out on plant in a methodical & logical manner such that reactive faults can be identified and repaired safely, alongside working proactively by working on Planned maintenance & Routines scheduled by our Maintenance planner.As a Mechanical Technician, you will help drive our goals by:Responsible for the delivery of preventative/proactive maintenance of Mechanical systems and its sub or support systemsAttending to any reactive/corrective maintenance that arisesFault finding, completing any repairs/replacements/calibration or set-up, installation of new systems/equipment, commissioning alongside operations on returning to serviceContribute to improving the site performance in all aspects of safe operation, regulatory compliance, productive output and cost efficiency by improving the engineering reliability of site equipment and ensuring appropriate maintenance frequency of assets is complied with.Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:Extensive hands on experience for mechanical maintenance in the Chemical/Pharmaceutical/Oil & Gas/Manufacturing industriesWorking knowledge of LOTO and permit to work systemsExperience working with high hazard systems (i.e Chlorine, HCL, Caustic, high pressure or/and high temperature systems)Expertise in troubleshooting and triaging mechanical equipment failuresKnowledge and experience of site services, Gas, Compressed air, Steam, cooling water and how to deenergise and work on safely.Knowledge and use of technical drawings & operator manuals alongside Mechanical exploded view/cross sectional drawings & P&ID’s to aid fault diagnosis process.Expertise in troubleshooting and triaging mechanical equipment failuresExperienced in the maintenance, stripping, repairing and installing of: pumps (peristaltic, centrifugal, diaphragm, dosing), mechanical seals, GRP equipment, glass-lined vessels, tanks, agitators, gearboxes, fans, valves, calciners, belt filters, filter presses)Knowledge of glassware equipment and pipeworkExperience in pipework fabrication and installation - including plastic pipework (PVDF, PP, PVC) and steel pipeworkEven if you only match some of the skills, we’d love to hear from you to discuss further!What we offer:We make sure salaries are fair, competitive and aligned to individual roles, experience and responsibilities.
