Job summary

Knowlton & Newman, part of the Rubix Group, is recruiting a permanent, full-time Technician to install, assemble, test, commission, maintain and repair industrial systems and equipment across workshop and customer sites. The role covers pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors and hydraulic equipment, with specialist tasks in areas such as Winder, Pumps, Site Services and Electrical.

You will interpret drawings, use hand tools and test equipment, diagnose faults, and work safely to satisfy customer

Qualifications

  • Applies engineering/maintenance knowledge to service industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Experience using hand tools, workshop machinery and test equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues and customers.
  • Flexible, able to work in both workshop and on customer sites.
  • Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent).
  • Specialist training or certification where applicable (e.g., lifting, confined space, electrical testing).
  • Valid UK driving licence preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse job cards and work instructions to determine scope, status, limitations and requirements.
  • Inspect, test, assemble, and commission industrial equipment to meet customer specifications and internal standards.
  • Carry out fault diagnosis, repair and maintenance safely and efficiently.
  • Record work undertaken, parts used and time spent with accurate documentation.
  • Operate workshop and site equipment safely, following training and company procedures.
  • Liaise with customers, colleagues and management to provide updates and technical support.
  • Ensure all work is completed to required quality and delivered on time.
  • Promote and uphold company values focusing on safety, quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct electrical installation, inspection and testing of motors, panels and control equipment.

The Role

Knowlton & Newman, part of the Rubix Group, provide 24/7 engineering services. We repair, overhaul, install, and maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic equipment and cover a wide range of industrial equipment for customers across multiple sectors.

The Technician role is a multi-skilled position, responsible for the installation, assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of industrial systems and equipment. This generalist description outlines the core responsibilities expected of all technicians, with specialist tasks added depending on the area of expertise (e.g., Winder, Pumps, Site Services, Electrical, Hydraulic, Compressor, Motors, Gearboxes).

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse job cards and work instructions to determine scope, status, limitations, and requirements.
  • Inspect, test, assemble, and commission industrial equipment to ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.
  • Carry out fault diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
