Mechanical Technician
Pay: £33,879 - £37,296 per annum inclusive of London Weighting.
Hours: Mon-Fri 8am to 4pm

About the Role:
- Responsible for undertaking planned preventative and reactive maintenance throughout university buildings, ensuring adherence to operational, regulatory, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Ensure records of maintenance are kept up to date and of high standard.
- Maintain the operational performance and safety of buildings at all times.
- Liaise with specialist sub-contractors, building engineers, and clients to maintain high-quality service delivery and system uptime.
- Optimize and analyze system performance, troubleshoot, and offer creative solutions.
- Develop familiarity with the operation and recovery of all critical systems within the building portfolio.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance, report faults, and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
- Update work schedules and reprogram as necessary.
- Maintain Safe Systems of Work and update as required.
- Manage fault finding and conduct statutory system and asset testing, reporting accordingly.
- Handle emergencies and breakdowns responsibly.
- Deliver and comply with statutory, environmental, health, safety, and quality standards applicable to the university environment.
- Minimize plant failure risks and promote proactive maintenance processes.
- Participate in a 24-hour on-call system providing emergency services during non-working hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Undertake training to qualify as Authorised / Responsible / Competent Person as required.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required within the department.
- Deliver high customer service and participate in training as needed.
This is a full-time position (35 hours/week) with an indefinite contract.
About You:
Successful candidates will possess the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
- Level 3 award/certificate in mechanical field or equivalent, or a time-served mechanical apprenticeship, with strong competencies in mechanical trades.
- Good knowledge of engineering designs, installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Understanding of health and safety obligations regarding maintenance activities.
- Effective communication skills, including verbal communication.
- Ability to work with an iPad managing work via CAFM system and proficiency in IT (Excel, Teams, Microsoft Office).
- Team player with a flexible attitude, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, capable of providing guidance on requests.
Desirable Criteria:
- First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of working in critical environments.
- IOSH Working Safely certification.
- BMS knowledge.
