Job summary

The Oil and Pipelines Agency in Helensburgh is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join a safety-critical maintenance team at Finnart OFD. The role involves maintaining rotating and static plant, using diagrams and P&ID drawings, and ensuring safe execution of tasks.

You will perform planned maintenance, support RAMS and PTW processes, and work on-site with occasional confined-space tasks. A clean driving licence and collaborative approach are valued.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Mechanical Technician with a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of rotating and static plant (tanks, pumps, valves, pipework).
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and on-call roster; medically fit for breathing apparatus.
  • Ability to prepare RAMS and work within Safe Systems of Work.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned maintenance and defect rectification efficiently.
  • Report site defects to Depot Engineer for corrective action.
  • Complete weekly/monthly PPM paperwork within agreed timescales.
  • Prepare work areas for complex depot maintenance.
  • Use diagnostics to identify faults in depot systems and components.
  • Read and understand technical drawings (P&ID’s, isometrics).
  • Review works and produce RAMS to carry out tasks safely.

Job description

Location:

Finnart OFD, Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute

The role:

Due to continued growth we are looking to recruit an additional Mechanical Technician to join us at our new Finnart OFD (Oil Fuel Depot) located at Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute.

Working as part of a small maintenance team, this safety critical role focuses on tasks being carried out to high standards of safety, to ensure no harm to people or the environment.

Predominantly working outside involving manual handling and some occasional work within a confined space, there may be a requirement to travel to other sites or for training, therefore a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential.

This role requires candidates to show they are a motivated team player, be willing to be part of a rostered “on-call” team and to undertake short notice overtime. You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the foundations of health and safety, have a good safety conscious record, along with high standards of honesty and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:
  • Carry out planned maintenance activities and defect rectification efficiently.
  • Reporting of site defects immediately to Depot Engineer for rectification.
  • Complete weekly / monthly PPM paperwork in agreed time scale with Depot Engineer.
  • Prepare the work area for more complex maintenance of depot, systems, or components.
  • Utilise diagnostic techniques to identify faults in depot systems and components.
  • Understand technical drawings, P&ID’s, isometrics, general arrangements.
  • A good understanding of Safe Systems of Works / RAM’s / PTW. Will be required to review works and produce RAMS to carry out the task safely.

The candidate:

Candidates will need to be qualified Mechanical Technicians, having completed a recognised Mechanical Craft Apprenticeship or Equivalent covering for example the following subjects, (NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations, NVQ Level 2 (QPE007 - Forming & Assembling Pipework Systems, Level 3 BTEC Mechanical Maintenance, NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance)

You will need to have a strong working knowledge of rotating and static plant, including, tanks, pumps, valves, pipework, tanks, oil separators, pumps, compressors, valves, actuators, and piping systems.

You can also expect to occasionally be carrying out some working in confined spaces, therefore you need to be medically fit to use Breathing Apparatus, as well as have a natural ability to work collaboratively with other team members and others with whom you may have dealings in a professional manner, and be computer literate with the ability to fill out paperwork accurately and in a timely manner as well as updating computer records.
