Job description

Location: Cambridge (CB3)
Duration: 3 months with the potential to be extended
Hours: 30 hours per week (4 days per week with Wednesdays off)
Salary: 14 - 18 per hour

Polytec are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Technician to join our Cambridge based client. You will be responsible for assembling, testing, and packing high-precision electromechanical instruments according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring quality documentation is maintained and stock levels are tracked. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support 3D printing processes, and assist with occasional on-site visits or R&D prototyping. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of life science innovation in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assemble precision electromechanical devices
Perform module and end-of-line (EOL) testing
Maintain, upgrade, and service in-house instruments
Operate and maintain 3D printers
Pack and ship finished products
Conduct occasional field visits to client sites
Complete documentation (e.g., NCRs, ECRs, batch records)
Adhere to SOPs and health & safety standards
Maintain a clean and organized production space following 5S principles

Proven mechanical technician experience (3+ years in a production environment)
High attention to detail and work ethic
Physically capable of lifting boxes up to 30kg
Desirable experience with precision assemblies (e.g. microfluidics, optics, linear motion systems)
