Seipp Construction has recently expanded it's offering in the mechanical engineering space. We are now looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitterto join our experienced team based in Christchurch. We're seeking a Mechanical Team Leader (Foreman) to join our Christchurch operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled mechanical professional to step into a leadership role, guiding teams on high-profile projects while upholding Seipp's commitment to safety, quality, and innovation.

About the role

In this hands-on leadership position, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate mechanical fitting operations on-site, ensuring projects run to schedule and to the highest standards.
  • Partner with the Site Engineer to develop and maintain short-term programmes, including 3-week look-aheads for your sections of work.
  • Manage daily pre-start and afternoon planning meetings, set daily tasks and oversee labour, plant and materials to maximise efficiency.
  • Order materials and services, approve crew and labour hire timesheets, and ensure plant meets project requirements.
  • Supervise subcontractors, monitor plant maintenance needs, and keep the Site Hazard Board current.
  • Ensure all work meets best industry practices, project specifications and environmental requirements.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by leading daily pre-starts, supporting JSEA development, and actively promoting incident reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews with your team and encourage open, two-way communication on site.

About you

You'll bring:

  • A solid mechanical background, ideally with a mechanical fitter trade qualification (preferred, not essential).
  • At least 9+ years' experience in mechanical engineering, with strong exposure to construction site operations.
  • Proven leadership skills - you know how to get the best from your team, address performance issues constructively, and keep morale high.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with sound time management.
  • Confident communication and interpersonal skills, and comfort working closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors and clients.
  • Basic skills in Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
