Mechanical Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our Mechanical Systems Branch as part of our Nuclear Services Business, supporting the delivery of EDF's projects such as Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC).

In your role, you will maintain technical oversight of the design and supply chain, ensuring safety case requirements are captured and fulfilled during design, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning of the plant.

The role is within the Gas, Radwaste and Handling team, responsible for technical oversight and delivery of approximately 30 equipment contracts across HPC and SZC, along with system ownership of around 36 systems for those stations. For the operational fleet, the team manages system ownership of gas plant, working closely with station system owners to ensure optimal reliability and performance.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of EPR/AGR/PWR design and operation, working in a fast-paced project and operational environment.

Salary ranges from £52,000 to £65,000 (negotiable based on experience). What You’ll Be Doing
  • Act as the primary contact for the Programme Team, ensuring design safety, construction, and functionality requirements are met.
  • Conduct technical reviews and approve design documentation from designers and suppliers.
  • Maintain oversight to ensure safety case requirements are integrated and traceable throughout the process.
  • Verify compliance with codes and standards, ensuring plants meet specifications, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders, including interactions with the ONR.
  • Develop and maintain System Substantiation Summary Documents and substantiate Safety Cases for your systems.
Who You Are…
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, with project environment and contractual management experience preferred.
  • Understanding of Safety Case requirements and application throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of equipment design and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Understanding of Nuclear Power Station design is essential; familiarity with PWR or EPR systems is a bonus.
