Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Lead to join an established oil & gas operation in Dorset. You will lead the Mechanical Technician Team and provide day‑to‑day mechanical engineering support to deliver safe, reliable maintenance.

The role emphasizes equipment reliability improvements, minor project delivery, and contributing to the site’s long‑term mechanical strategy. A broad mechanical background, experience with rotating machinery, valves, pumps and pipelines,

Qualifications

• Broad mechanical engineering background, ideally in petrochemical/oil & gas.
• Experience with rotating machinery (pumps, compressors, engines, gearboxes) and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Recognised mechanical qualification; HND or similar preferred.
• Strong communication, leadership and ability to work across technical and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the Mechanical Technician Team to plan and deliver maintenance safely.
• Coordinate with technicians, contractors and stakeholders to deliver maintenance and minor modifications.
• Provide engineering support for plant modifications, breakdowns and equipment reliability improvements.
• Plan and deliver minor mechanical projects and modifications.
• Develop and maintain mechanical equipment maintenance strategies.
• Support mechanical equipment procurement and review inventory requirements.
• Provide technical support and contribute to training of technicians.
• Apply strong standards of process safety, risk management and engineering compliance.

Job description

Mechanical Engineering Lead

Dorset

Monday to Friday | 7.5 hours per day

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Engineering professional to join an established oil & gasoperation in Dorset.

The role will provide day-to-day mechanical engineering support across the asset, with responsibility for supporting and leading the Mechanical Technician Team to deliver safe, efficient and reliable maintenance. You’ll also play an important role in improving equipment reliability and contributing to the longer term mechanical engineering strategy for the site.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supporting the Mechanical Technician Team, helping to plan and deliver maintenance activities safely and effectively.
• Coordinating with technicians, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure maintenance and minor modification work is delivered efficiently.
• Providing engineering support for plant modifications, breakdowns and equipment reliability improvements.
• Planning and delivering minor mechanical projects and modifications.
• Developing and maintaining effective mechanical equipment maintenance strategies.
• Supporting mechanical equipment procurement and reviewing inventory requirements.
• Providing technical support and contributing to the training and development of technicians.
• Applying strong standards of process safety, risk management and engineering compliance.

The role requires a broad mechanical engineering background, ideally gained within a petrochemical, oil & gas, chemical or other hazardous process environment.

You should have strong experience with mechanical equipment including rotating machinery such as pumps, compressors, engines and gearboxes, alongside hydraulic and pneumatic systems, piping, valves, PSVs and pressure equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a recognised mechanical engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent technical background, with an HND or similar qualification preferred. Around 10 years’ relevant experience is expected, including significant experience within a petrochemical or comparable process environment.

Strong communication, leadership and influencing skills are essential, together with the ability to take ownership of engineering responsibilities and work effectively across both technical and operational teams.
