Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Mechanical Superintendent for the Net Zero Teesside project based at Redcar and Cleveland. You will manage day-to-day piping construction, ensure safety, quality, and compliance, and drive progress against the contract programme.

The role demands a strong on-site leadership presence, CCNSG or equivalent safety certification, 5 years’ experience, and the ability to mentor apprentices while liaising with client representatives.

Qualifications

• CCNSG certification or equivalent safety training.
• Trade apprenticeship completed in a relevant trade.
• Minimum 5 years experience on site/workface.
• Awareness of NAECI agreement.
• Experience in progress recording and reporting.
• Preferably supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and motivating labour to ensure safe work practices.
• Managing piping systems operations per BMS; document control, materials, risk, planning, QA/QC.
• Communicating specifications and work instructions to area team.
• Ensuring compliance with regulations and permits (MS/RA).
• Participating in interview process for new hires.
• Progressing the project per contract program and reporting progress.
• Completing daily allocation sheets.
• Identifying variations to works per BMS.
• Maintaining industrial relations and resolving issues with Construction Lead guidance.
• Ensuring trainees and apprentices receive training.
• Conduct toolbox talks.
• Assessing team performance.
• Liaising with project team and Client representatives.
• Other duties as required.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Mechanical Superintendent to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role Purpose

To manage all of the day to day aspects of construction and installation work, ensuring that SSoW are adhered to.

What you'll be doing

• Supervising and motivating labour to ensure efficient and safe work practices.
• Ensuring the efficient operation of all piping systems in accordance with the Business Management System (BMS), including document control, materials management, risk management, planning, productivity, and QA/QC procedures.
• Communicating all necessary information to the area team, including specifications and work instructions, to facilitate performance and maximize opportunities.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory, company, industry, and client regulations/agreements and procedures, and ensuring all permits and associated safety documents (MS/RA) are in place.
• Actively participating in the interview process for new hires.
• Programming and progressing the project in accordance with the agreed contract program, including communicating progress achievements with the Superintendent/Construction Lead.
• Accurately completing daily allocation sheets.
• Identifying, documenting, and communicating any variations to the works in line with BMS procedures.
• Promoting good industrial relations and efficiently dealing with any problems, including disciplinary issues, with guidance from the Construction Lead if necessary.
• Ensuring trainees and apprentices receive appropriate and varied experience and training within the confines of the allocated work.
• Ensuring toolbox talks are communicated to the workforce.
• Assessing the performance of the team within the relevant area.
• Liaising with the project team and Client's representation.
• Completing any other duties as required in relation to skills, activities, status, etc., as required by the Superintendent/Construction Lead.

• Supporting the delivery of CSUK's Sustainability activities.
• This role is critical in maintaining operational efficiency, safety, and compliance within the piping operations

Who we're looking for

• Must have a valid CCNSG, IOSH Certification is preferred
• Trade Apprenticeship
• Must have 5 years experience at the workface
• Awareness of the NAECI Agreement
• Experience in progress recording and reporting for inclusion in the programme
• Preferably previous supervisory experience
