Job DescriptionJob Description

Joseph T. Berrena Mechanicals, Inc., a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, is seeking a Lead Service Technician to join our growing service division. This key position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of commercial and residential systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and commercial kitchen equipment. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded field technician with leadership skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead technician on assigned service calls, ensuring all work meets company and industry standards

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC systems (residential and light commercial)

  • Troubleshoot and service refrigeration systems, including walk-ins, reach-ins, and ice machines

  • Perform plumbing repairs, including leak detection, fixture replacement, and drainage solutions

  • Execute electrical service work, including diagnostics and minor installations

  • Service, install, and maintain commercial kitchen equipment, including fryers, ovens, grills, and exhaust systems

  • Mentor and guide junior technicians and apprentices in the field

  • Complete detailed service reports and maintain accurate documentation

  • Communicate effectively with clients, dispatch, and project management

  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, company procedures, and regulatory codes

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in multi-trade field service work (HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and kitchen equipment)

  • EPA Section 608 Certification (required)

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical acumen

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints

  • Excellent time management, communication, and leadership abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Physical ability to perform typical service technician duties (lifting up to 75 lbs, ladder work, rooftop units, confined spaces)

Certifications (Pay Premium Considered):

  • NATE Certification

  • OSHA 10/30

  • Commercial Refrigeration Certification

  • Backflow Prevention Certification

  • Manufacturer training certifications (e.g., Manitowoc, Vulcan, Trane, True, etc.)
