Mechanical QA/QC Engineer - Mission-Critical Data Centre Projects

Location: On-site (Blyth, United Kingdom)

Position Type: Full-time

About Our Client

Our client is Europe's premier dedicated data centre delivery partner, providing full turnkey solutions from initial design through to construction and commissioning. Headquartered in Dublin and recognized as a trusted leader across the continent, they are currently expanding their footprint with major hyperscale data centre projects in Blyth, United Kingdom.

These advanced facilities feature complex mechanical systems-including high-capacity cooling plant, specialized HVAC infrastructure, chilled water loops, and extensive high-pressure pipework. To guarantee that every joint, weld, and system integration meets the strictest tolerances, our client is seeking a mechanically biased QA/QC Engineer to join their on-site team.

Role Overview

Based full-time on-site in Blyth, you will take direct responsibility for driving the quality assurance and quality control of all mechanical installations. Working alongside the Construction Manager, Project Manager, and wider Quality Team, you will ensure that every phase of mechanical construction strictly complies with rigorous project specifications, engineering drawings, and international data centre standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical Inspection & Surveillance: Monitor and inspect all mechanical installation works-including piping, HVAC, pumps, chillers, AHUs, and thermal insulation-to ensure absolute compliance with project specifications and industry regulations.

  • QA/QC Frameworks: Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) procedures dedicated to mechanical packages.

  • Technical Submissions & ITPs: Review, verify, and manage method statements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), pressure-testing logs, and quality documentation submitted by mechanical subcontractors.

  • Auditing & Compliance: Carry out rigorous on-site inspections, quality audits, and factory acceptance test (FAT) reviews, issuing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and tracking them to prompt resolution where required.

  • Technical Problem Solving: Support the mechanical engineering team in troubleshooting quality issues, offering technical advice, and verifying that robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented.

  • Material & Workmanship Verification: Ensure that all incoming mechanical plant, valves, piping materials, and specialized equipment are inspected, pressure-tested, certified, and properly documented prior to installation.

  • Documentation & Dossier Management: Maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of all mechanical inspections, hydrostatic/pneumatic test certificates, and quality documentation to feed into project tracking systems.

  • Project Handover & Close-Out: Play a pivotal role in mechanical completion and project handover activities, ensuring seamless compilation of quality dossiers, commissioning records, and O&M manuals.

What We Are Looking For
  • Educational Background: Relevant bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related construction discipline.

  • Industry Experience: Proven track record as a QA/QC Engineer on large-scale, complex construction projects, ideally within mission-critical environments such as hyperscale data centres, advanced manufacturing, or pharmaceutical plants.

  • Mechanical Technical Mastery: Deep familiarity with heavy mechanical construction methods, pressure testing protocols, welding standards, HVAC distribution, and mechanical plant commissioning.

  • Systems & Documentation: Exceptional proficiency in developing and executing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), managing QA documentation, and tracking NCR workflows.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the authority and tact to challenge sub-contractor workmanship and drive a zero-defect culture on-site.

Why Join?
  • Pioneering Projects: Leave your stamp on some of the largest sustainable digital infrastructure developments in Blyth, UK.

  • Career Advancement: Accelerate your career with a market leader experiencing rapid, sustained European growth.

  • Reward Package: Enjoy a competitive salary package within a collaborative, fast-paced technical environment.
