Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to join the Blyth project on-site in the United Kingdom. You will take full responsibility for directing all mechanical construction works, ensuring a safe, timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery.

The role requires leading installation activities, coordinating with planners, designers and subcontractors, reviewing drawings and submittals, and driving health and safety excellence to support a successful project

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years mechanical construction experience with strong site management.
• Proven experience with HVAC, piping, and building services on large-scale projects.
• Experience in data centre, mission-critical, or major industrial projects preferred.
• Strong planning, sequencing, commissioning, and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day mechanical site operations and oversee all mechanical installation activities.
• Enforce QA/QC procedures to meet design specs and high standards.
• Coordinate with Planners, Project Managers, design consultants, and subcontractors to align programs.
• Manage mechanical subcontractors, track progress, and ensure safety documentation.
• Review drawings, submittals, and specs to resolve issues and maintain schedule.
• Lead site meetings, engineering reviews, and handover sessions; report progress.
• Drive health and safety culture across site.
• Support cost control by tracking variations and aiding handover close-out.

Role Overview

An experienced Mechanical Construction Manager is required to join the project team on-site in Blyth, UK. You will take full responsibility for directing all mechanical construction works on site, driving safe, timely, cost-effective, and high-quality project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Management: Lead day-to-day mechanical site operations and oversee all mechanical installation activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Quality Assurance: Execute and enforce robust QA/QC procedures to ensure full compliance with design specifications and high standards.
• Coordination & Planning: Partner with Planners, Project Managers, design consultants, and sub-contractors to align project programmes and buildability.
• Sub-Contractor Management: Oversee mechanical sub-contractor performance, tracking progress, monitoring labor levels, facilitating coordination meetings, and maintaining up-to-date health and safety documentation.
• Design & Technical Reviews: Review drawings, technical submittals, and specifications to resolve technical issues proactively and align information with the project timeline.
• Meetings & Reporting: Lead site meetings, engineering reviews, and handover sessions; generate progress reports for project leadership.
• Health & Safety: Drive an uncompromised health and safety culture, enforcing strict compliance across all site activities.
• Commercial & Handover Support: Support cost control by tracking variations in weekly commercial meetings, and manage mechanical snagging to ensure efficient close-out.

Skills & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 8+ years of mechanical construction experience, with a heavy emphasis on direct site management.
• Technical Expertise: Proven record of managing complex mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, and building services) on large-scale builds.
• Industry Background: Data centre, mission-critical, or major industrial project experience is highly desirable.
• Core Competencies: Strong grasp of construction sequencing, commissioning processes, sub-contractor leadership, and clear stakeholder communication.
