Mechanical QA Manager

1st Step Solutions are looking for an experienced Mechanical QA Manager in the Surrey area on behalf of a leading Tier 1 M&E Contractor.

Role:
The Mechanical QA Manager will oversee the quality assurance processes for mechanical systems and installations, ensuring they meet project specifications, regulatory standards, and best practices. This involves developing and implementing quality control procedures, conducting inspections, managing documentation, and collaborating with project teams and clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the mechanical quality assurance process across all phases of a project, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Create and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, QA checklists, and other quality-related documents.
  • Perform regular on-site inspections and quality audits to verify adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ensure all quality-related activities are tracked, recorded, and documented according to client and contract requirements.
  • Oversee mechanical system testing procedures (e.g., pressure tests, functional tests) and support the commissioning process.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve quality issues and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Support the collation and review of handover documentation for client acceptance, ensuring all mechanical systems are properly documented and ready for use.
  • Proactively identify potential quality problems and work with the site team to implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure all quality records are accurate, complete, and readily available for review.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on quality performance to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all mechanical installations and processes comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Offer technical guidance and support to site operatives on quality-related matters.


Skills and Experience Required:

  • An industry relevant City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or above.
  • SMSTS.
  • CSCS Skill Card - Black Card desirable
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical QA Manager.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, pipework, public health, etc.).
  • Experience in developing and implementing QA/QC procedures and documentation.
  • Proficiency in conducting site inspections, audits, and system walkdowns.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
  • Experience with testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Ability to influence and drive positive attitudes and behaviours with regards to site health and safety.
  • Experience in dealing with mechanical sub-contractors.
  • IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
  • Will need to be able to understand building services including design principles, method statements, inspection test plans, risk assessments, commissioning, and handover requirements.
