Job description

Job Description
Mechanical Project Manager – Major Decarbonisation Project – East London

MK Search are working with a well-established and highly regarded renewables and decarbonisation contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Project Manager for a major project in East London.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing contractor with a strong pipeline of energy efficiency, retrofit and decarbonisation projects across London and the wider UK.

The company will be operating as the Main Contractor, working directly with the end client, with responsibility for the full delivery of the scheme. The project has a mechanical value of approximately £9m and will involve a significant programme of mechanical and energy infrastructure upgrades.

The successful Mechanical Project Manager will take responsibility for the mechanical delivery of the project, overseeing the works from procurement and mobilisation through installation, commissioning and final handover.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take overall responsibility for the mechanical delivery of the £10m package
  • Manage the project programme, ensuring key milestones and completion dates are achieved
  • Coordinate mechanical installation works across the project
  • Manage subcontractors, direct labour and specialist suppliers
  • Work closely with the client, design teams, consultants and other project stakeholders
  • Review mechanical designs, specifications and technical submissions
  • Oversee procurement of mechanical plant, equipment and materials
  • Manage programme, quality, health & safety and commercial considerations
  • Chair and attend progress, coordination and subcontractor meetings
  • Monitor site progress and identify potential programme or delivery risks
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls/BMS and associated building services packages
  • Manage commissioning, testing, snagging and project close-out
  • Ensure installations comply with relevant specifications, regulations and quality standards
  • Provide regular project updates and reporting to senior management and the client
  • Drive the project through to successful practical completion and handover
Candidate Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Project Manager within building services, M&E, energy or renewables
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services installations
  • Experience delivering sizeable mechanical packages from pre-construction through to handover
  • Experience managing subcontractors and site-based delivery teams
  • Strong commercial and programme awareness
  • Confident client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience within decarbonisation, retrofit, energy efficiency or renewable energy projects would be advantageous
  • Experience with technologies such as heat pumps, low-carbon heating systems and associated plant would also be beneficial
The Opportunity:

This is a long-term opportunity with a contractor that is continuing to grow within the UK decarbonisation and renewables market. With the business working directly for the end client as Main Contractor, the Mechanical Project Manager will have significant ownership and visibility across the project rather than managing an isolated subcontract package.

The company can consider candidates looking for either a permanent position or a freelance contract, with competitive salaries/packages and day rates available depending on experience.

There is also genuine scope for long-term progression as the company continues to secure major decarbonisation and energy projects across London and the wider UK.
