Job description

Mechanical Project Manager

Location: Hertfordshire

Salary: £65,000

Schedule: Monday–Friday, Days

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to oversee the delivery of mechanical projects from site mobilisation through to completion. This role is responsible for ensuring safety, quality, performance, and profitability are upheld across all assigned contracts.

You will manage all site-based operations including labour, plant, materials, logistics, and subcontractor coordination. Key responsibilities include implementing quality control processes, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and engaging with stakeholders at all levels to maintain project standards and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee daily site activities and ensure all operations align with contract requirements.

- Manage labour, materials, plant, and logistics efficiently to support project delivery.

- Implement and maintain quality control procedures and provide ongoing feedback for improvement.

- Engage with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with legal and contractual obligations.

- Identify and mitigate health, safety, quality, and environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle.

- Enforce safe systems of work and maintain accurate site documentation and reports.

- Attend and contribute to regular site meetings and provide clear, evidence-based progress reports.

- Conduct material take-offs, place orders, and manage on-site storage and usage.

- Review technical documents and provide practical, site-based feedback.

- Use construction software to record progress, update snag lists, and maintain daily diaries.

- Monitor and report on labour performance, programme status, and site health & safety.

- Maintain and manage all site registers for equipment, plant, and materials.

- Supervise and evaluate subcontractor performance, including RAMS, permits, and safety compliance.

- Lead daily briefings, toolbox talks, and site inductions; ensure documentation is up to date.

- Maintain high site welfare standards and ensure site security measures are upheld.

- Support snagging and defect management processes and coordinate close-outs with the supply chain.

Qualifications & Experience

- NVQ Level 3 or higher in Construction or Engineering (or equivalent experience).

- Valid CITB SSSTS certification (or equivalent supervisory qualification).

- IOSH Supervising Safely certification.

- CSCS card appropriate for role.

- First Aid at Work certified.

- Demonstrated experience in supervising mechanical projects of similar size and scope.

- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage site teams effectively.

- Strong understanding of statutory construction and engineering processes and regulations.

- Full UK driving licence.
