Job summary

Branta Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to own multiple concurrent mechanical projects from Newcastle office across the North East. You will oversee commercial, industrial, and public sector installations, upgrades, and HVAC capital works.

You will lead planning, procurement, and resource allocation while ensuring safety compliance and strong client relationships across sites.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple mechanical or HVAC projects concurrently within construction, industrial, or FM environments.
  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or related trade background (HNC/HND/Degree or time-served).
  • Safety & management certifications: SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely, or formal project management methods (APM/PRINCE2).
  • Commercial acumen: contract administration experience (e.g., JCT/NEC) and ability to manage variations.
  • Driving licence: Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Multi-Project Management: lead, plan, and deliver multiple mechanical engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Commercial & Financial Control: manage budgets, forecasting, variations, applications for payment, and final accounts with the commercial team.
  • Procurement & Resource Allocation: oversee procurement of plant, equipment, and materials; schedule engineers and sub-contractors.
  • H&S Leadership: champion site safety with RAMS, CDM regulations, and safety audits across projects.
  • Design & Technical Oversight: review drawings, BOMs and resolve design/site challenges with engineering teams.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: act as primary contact for clients/main contractors; chair progress meetings and maintain relationships.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and driven Mechanical Project Manager to take full operational and commercial ownership of multiple concurrent mechanical projects across the North East. Based from our Newcastle office, you will oversee a varied portfolio of commercial, industrial, and public sector mechanical installations, plant upgrades, and HVAC capital works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Multi-Project Management: Simultaneously lead, plan, and deliver multiple mechanical engineering projects, ensuring all deliverables are met on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
  • Commercial & Financial Control: Manage project budgets, forecasting, variations, applications for payment, and final accounts, working closely with the commercial team to maximize profitability.
  • Procurement & Resource Allocation: Oversee the procurement of specialist mechanical plant, equipment, and materials, while effectively scheduling internal engineers and sub-contractors across various sites.
  • H&S Leadership: Champion site safety by ensuring robust implementation of RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), CDM regulations, and health and safety audits across all active projects.
  • Design & Technical Oversight: Review technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs), collaborating with engineering teams to resolve complex design or site challenges.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, main contractors, and consultants, chairing progress meetings and maintaining exceptional working relationships.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience: Proven track record managing multiple mechanical engineering or HVAC projects concurrently within a construction, industrial, or FM environment.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related trade background (HNC/HND/Degree or time-served mechanical pedigree).
  • Safety & Management Certifications: Valid SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme), IOSH Managing Safely, or formal project management methodologies (APM / PRINCE2).
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong financial awareness, contract administration experience (e.g., JCT / NEC), and a proven ability to manage project variations.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence.
