Client: Tier 1 Contractor (Minor Works Framework)

About the Role

Our client, a leading Tier 1 contractor within the UK water industry, is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join their expanding delivery team in North Wales.

This opportunity sits within a Minor Works Framework, where agility, professionalism, and the ability to make on-the-spot decisions are key. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-moving, highly mobile environment, working across multiple small-scale projects that demand quick thinking, strong technical capability, and confident stakeholder management.

You'll play a crucial role in coordinating and managing all mechanical aspects of construction projects, ensuring that work is delivered safely, to high quality standards, on time, and within budget.

Key Purpose

To manage and coordinate all mechanical project construction activities, ensuring delivery in line with project specifications, client expectations, and company standards — with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, programme, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and motivate site teams and subcontractors, maintaining the highest possible safety standards.
  • Structure and manage a competent project team, monitoring individual and overall performance.
  • Implement robust procedures for design, procurement, manufacture, and installation on and off site.
  • Chair and record project meetings including site progress, safety, design, and subcontractor reviews.
  • Support commercial teams in the selection and procurement of subcontract packages.
  • Coordinate with third parties and manage all external interfaces effectively.
  • Produce and maintain accurate internal and external project reports.
  • Liaise closely with the client and design teams to ensure objectives are aligned and expectations met.
  • Quickly and effectively resolve complex site issues as they arise.
  • Prepare and manage Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and site safety documentation.
Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Relevant CSCS card and SMSTS qualification.
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant mechanical or construction discipline (e.g., ONC/HNC, NVQ in Site Supervision).
  • Strong technical mechanical knowledge within the water or utilities sector (clean or wastewater).
  • Proven experience managing NEC contracts.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
  • Strong IT literacy, including company/project management software.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction programmes and provide progress updates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Valid First Aid at Work certification.
  • Experience writing RAMS and working knowledge of CDM regulations.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering projects within a Minor Works or Framework environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to work under pressure and manage several moving parts simultaneously.
  • Prior involvement with Water Utility Companies (Clean & Wastewater operations).
Personal Attributes
  • Professional, decisive, and capable of making sound judgments on the spot.
  • Natural leader who motivates teams and builds strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Values-driven, demonstrating trust, integrity, quality, respect, and reliability.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent organisational and planning abilities.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and maintaining high delivery standards.
Why Apply?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Tier 1 contractor that is actively building a new delivery team to meet the demands of a busy Minor Works Framework. You'll be joining a collaborative environment where your experience and autonomy are truly valued — and where no two days are ever the same
