Our client is a global leader in automated material handling systems and they are looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join their UK Engineering Parcels team at London Heathrow. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for structured design, technical delivery, and seeing projects through from conception to completion. The ideal candidate will be methodical, compliance–focused, and enjoy working within a defined framework on high–profile parcel and logistics projects.

About the Role
You will play a critical role in delivering mechanical design solutions for leading parcel automation projects across the UK, including work with clients such as FedEx and DPD. You will also contribute to future opportunities including An Post and PAACK. This role includes frequent customer liaison, on–site presence, and integration with multidisciplinary teams. While hybrid, it is not suitable for fully remote work due to project demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineer mechanical systems and layouts for automated handling systems (baggage, parcel, warehouse, conveyor).
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety standards and CDM regulations, including risk assessments.
  • Confident use of 2D and 3D AutoCAD; experience with Navisworks (clash detection), Revit, and BIM is a plus.
  • Design with consideration for building interfaces, services, mezzanines, and structural steelwork.
  • Produce accurate site installation documentation and layout drawings.
  • Develop equipment specifications based on sound technical knowledge.
  • Assess risks and identify opportunities to reduce project uncertainty.
  • Apply knowledge of Machinery Safety Standards to ensure safe operation and maintenance.
  • Work independently or within teams to take full ownership of your designs.
  • Coordinate closely with customers and other internal engineering disciplines.
  • Travel to UK and international sites as needed to support project delivery.
  • Present design solutions clearly and confidently to clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure systems are designed for manufacture within budget constraints.
  • Support mechanical activity planning and subcontractor coordination.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes and your own professional development.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree or equivalent in a mechanical engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in automated material handling systems.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and mechanical design standards.
  • Experience in multi–discipline engineering environments (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Safety).
  • Strong attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach.
  • Flexible with working hours and travel requirements.
