Mechanical Project Engineer

Location: Bristol
Type: Permanent, Hybrid

A globally recognised testing, inspection & certification company is seeking an experienced Project Engineer with a mechanical engineering background and specialist knowledge in welding and pressure equipment. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects across the UK, including nuclear new build, existing generation, defueling, decommissioning, and defence.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support multiple nuclear-related projects across the UK
  2. Provide engineering input into conformity assessments, safety case verification, and inspection activities
  3. Define and implement standard inspection processes and procedures
  4. Develop and approve technical specifications and procedures
  5. Contribute to the production of Project Execution Plans and Quality Manuals
  6. Act as a central technical point of contact for project delivery, ensuring effective communication and coordination across teams
  7. Maintain and develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and manufacturers
  8. Promote continuous improvement within engineering and quality practices
  9. Ensure all project work complies with relevant accreditations and regulatory requirements
Skills and Experience Required
  1. Strong background in mechanical engineering, with extensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques and welding procedure development in regulated environments
  2. Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  3. Proven expertise in areas such as Inspection, Design Verification, Welding, NDT, Nuclear Safety, or Pressure Vessels / Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)
  4. Experience managing technical discussions and influencing stakeholders
  5. Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  6. Familiarity with nuclear quality standards or other highly regulated industries
  7. Knowledge of ISO 9001 and its application in engineering projects
