Job description

The role of Mechanical/Plant Fitter (Workshop based):


Our Workshop Fitters are responsible for maintaining and servicing our plant hire fleet and range of construction equipment. Working alongside a talented team, you will help ensure that all machinery operates at peak performance, contributing to the efficient running of our Plant Operations Division. If you have a strong background in mechanical maintenance and enjoy collaborating with a team of experts, this is a great opportunity to grow your career in a fast-paced and supportive environment.


Main duties within this role include:

  1. Troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues, providing solutions in a timely manner.
  2. Maintain accurate records of work carried out and any parts used.
  3. Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively to customers and team members.
  4. Ensure machinery operates at optimal performance and in compliance with safety regulations.
  5. Provide exceptional customer service and technical support when needed.
  6. Work efficiently in a busy environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  7. Collaborate with the team and contribute to a positive, productive work environment.
  8. Take initiative in identifying potential issues before they become critical.
  9. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations, including safety checks, implementing safe working procedures, and escalating further concerns to supervisor/plant operation manager.
  10. Uphold the company’s high-quality standards and understand the impact of excellent customer service on overall satisfaction.

Are You the Right Person for This Role?

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  1. A solid understanding of mechanics, hydraulics, and electrical systems specific to heavy plant machinery.
  2. Proven experience in the plant industry or a similar field.
  3. Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults.
  4. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  5. Customer-focused with a strong commitment to providing high-quality service.
  6. Ability to work well in a team and independently, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and ensuring high standards of safety and quality.

Qualifications:

  1. Relevant qualifications or certifications in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical engineering (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ, HND, or equivalent).
  2. Previous experience working with heavy plant machinery is essential.
  3. Full, clean driving license is preferred.
