The Opportunity

Our client is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical & Piping Engineer to join our client's team in West Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the innovative design and development of small to medium-scale reverse osmosis water treatment pilot plant skids. The successful candidate will lead mechanical and piping design from concept through to fabrication, supporting project delivery within time and budget constraints.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  1. Lead the mechanical and piping design for water treatment pilot plant skids, ensuring delivery from concept to fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  2. Provide expert mechanical engineering support to the wider design team and make independent design decisions within defined scopes.
  3. Create high-quality engineering deliverables, including mechanical components, piping layouts, skid frameworks, P&IDs, manufacturing drawings, and 3D models.
  4. Manage and participate in internal and external design reviews.
  5. Perform calculations for piping systems and mechanical components, including high-pressure piping up to 120 bar.
  6. Design skid frames, mechanical supports, and ensure design for manufacture, assembly, and maintenance.
  7. Develop and enforce CAD standards and procedures; enhance team capabilities in producing technical drawings.
  8. Participate in HAZOP studies in multi-disciplinary teams.

You will have the following qualifications and experience

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or MEng).
  2. Minimum 10 years’ experience in designing high-pressure industrial process equipment (utilities, pharma, oil & gas).
  3. Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, Plant3D); preferably with Autodesk or SolidWorks certification.
  4. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and general engineering standards/specifications.
  5. Experience with BS EN standards and working knowledge of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations (PESR).
  6. Solid grasp of pump technologies and development of pump specifications.
  7. Strong communication skills and ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  8. Attention to detail and a “right-first-time” approach.

It's great if you also have the following

  1. Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or equivalent.
  2. At least 5 years in a Senior/Lead/Principal Engineer role.
  3. Experience in regulated industries, particularly in design for manufacture and assembly.
  4. Familiarity with ASME standards.
