Job summary

Procter & Gamble in London seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for the London Distribution Centre. The role involves maintaining and optimizing equipment and facilities to ensure continuous operations, with a days/nights shift pattern and collaboration with engineers and production teams.

The ideal candidate has proven Millwright/maintenance experience, mechanical engineering qualifications, and strong fault-finding skills in hydraulics and pneumatics.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Millwright, Maintenance Fitter, Industrial Mechanic or similar in manufacturing.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent such as ONC/C&G Part 3/Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and basic electrical principles.
• Able to read drawings, schematics and maintenance manuals.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex machinery and systems.
• Experience with hand and power tools and workshop machinery.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in industrial environments.
• Good problem-solving and attention to detail, able to work independently or in a team.
• Willingness to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of industrial machinery including conveyors and automated systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic faults and implement repairs to minimise downtime.
• Install, commission and decommission machinery following safety and operating procedures.
• Fabricate, assemble and repair mechanical components and structures.
• Inspect equipment and test utility systems (HVAC, water, compressed air, steam) for performance and compliance.
• Maintain and repair Automatic Storage & Retrieval Systems and related equipment.
• Operate shop equipment like lathes, milling machines and grinders for fabrication and repair tasks.
• Follow safety policies and environmental regulations.
• Document maintenance work orders, repairs and parts usage.
• Collaborate with production teams and engineers to resolve operations issues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to boost equipment reliability.
• Provide guidance to less experienced team members.
