Job summary

Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) at Hunterston A is seeking a Time-served Mechanical Maintenance Technician to maintain critical plant and infrastructure during decommissioning. You will join a multi-disciplinary team delivering reliable mechanics and safety-focused work on a four-day week.

You will work from drawings and instructions, perform preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs, and support installation projects while upholding the highest safety standards in a regulated

Qualifications

• Time-served Mechanical Fitter with SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Proven industrial mechanical maintenance experience.
• Strong health and safety mindset with permits to work experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment across the site.
• Lead and support mechanical maintenance tasks, fault diagnosis and repairs.

At Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), we're looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our multi-disciplinary maintenance team at Hunterston A. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining critical plant and infrastructure as part of a site with a long-term mission of safe decommissioning and environmental restoration. What will you be doing

As part of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for ensuring mechanical assets across the site remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose. From preventative maintenance and inspections to repairs, installations and fault finding, you'll work on a diverse range of equipment including motors, gearboxes, valves, ventilation systems and facilities infrastructure. Your expertise will help ensure maintenance activities are completed efficiently while supporting operational and environmental objectives.

You'll take an active role in leading and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring work is carried out to the highest safety standards. Working from engineering drawings, maintenance instructions and risk assessments, you'll identify faults, implement effective solutions and support continuous site performance. This role offers real variety, with opportunities to work across industrial and commercial environments, including occasional work at height and within controlled areas where specialist protective equipment is required.

Who are we looking for

We're seeking a motivated and safety-conscious mechanical professional who enjoys both hands-on technical work and collaborating as part of a high-performing team. You'll bring a positive, can-do attitude, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while supporting colleagues to achieve shared goals.

To be successful, you'll be a time-served Mechanical Fitter qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) with proven industrial mechanical maintenance experience. You'll have a strong understanding of health and safety practices, permit-to-work systems and working within highly regulated environments. Experience leading maintenance activities and diagnosing mechanical faults will be important, along with the ability to follow technical instructions accurately and consistently.

Whilst not essential, experience gained in multi-skilled maintenance environments, the nuclear industry or other heavy industrial settings would be highly advantageous. The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings would also be beneficial.
