Job summary

Northumbrian Water seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for its Broken Scar, Darlington maintenance team. This permanent, mobile role offers a van and fuel card, with core 37 hours weekly. You’ll diagnose faults and perform preventative maintenance to improve plant availability.

You will be time-served with ONC/NVQ3 in Mechanical Engineering and read mechanical drawings to locate and replace faulty components. DBS may be required.

Permanent role - 37 hours core per week
Salary - from £35,746 to £42,056 (depending on experience) + OTE of £6000 in overtime, standby and callout payments
Location: Broken Scar, Darlington (Mobile Worker with van and fuel card provided)

We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to work in the Broken Scar, Darlington Maintenance team. No two days are the same here, and you will be presented with unique opportunities to use your expertise in both fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance to improve plant availability.

At Northumbrian Water Group we have a diverse range of equipment allowing us to offer a unique prospect to specialise in areas such as condition-based maintenance, generators and chemical dosing.

You will be a fully mobile worker and will be provided with a van, starting and finishing your working day from home. All tools and equipment are provided supporting Technicians to minimise plant down time.

The role requires participation in an out of hour's standby rota. We will ensure that you have the relevant training and experience required to do this. Additional payments are made for standby, callouts and any additional hours worked.

About you

You will be a time served Mechanical Technician educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. You will have a maintenance background in reactive breakdowns and planned work, and you will manage your time efficiently with minimal supervision. You will be experienced in reading and finding faults from Mechanical drawings, identify the source and replacing faulty components.

We are looking for candidates with a can‑do attitude, willingness to learn and explore new ways of working. A hands-on practical approach and keen eye for identifying the route cause whilst investigating problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role.

You'll have excellent communication skills and be a team player with. A strong Health and Safety ethic is an important part of our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture.

A full, manual UK driving license is essential for this role.

What we will give you

You will have the potential to receive payment for up to 4 Technical Modules, (£1500 per module per year) with expectation that each Technician will achieve a minimum of 2 modules within 3 years.

We offer generous holiday arrangements, with annual leave entitlement starting on 23 days + Bank Holidays - rising to 28 days with length of service. We also offer additional 2 x ½ days special leave each year and the option to buy and sell leave.

This role is defined as a Safety and Security Critical role and prospective employees are required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.
