Mechanical Maintenance Technician – Manchester

£29,000 – £32,000 per annum, depending on experience

Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm

The Company

A leading international manufacturer operating within the speciality chemicals and FMCG sectors is looking to recruit a Maintenance Technician for its Manchester site. With over 40 years of expertise and a reputation for innovation, the business supports global markets with products and solutions that protect quality, ensure compliance, and improve operational performance.

The Role

This is a hands-on position reporting to the Engineering Manager. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for ensuring all site maintenance, repair and safety activities are completed to a high standard. The role involves overseeing contractors, managing the permit-to-work process, responding to breakdowns and driving improvements across engineering operations.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out and coordinate planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Supervise contractors and manage permit-to-work processes.
  • Oversee high-risk activities such as confined space entry, working at height and electrical work.
  • Maintain accurate records for plant, machinery, calibration and spares.
  • Diagnose and resolve breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime.
  • Implement service schedules and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Contribute to site housekeeping and general facilities maintenance.
  • Recommend and implement safety and efficiency improvements.
Experience Required
  • 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Strong background in mechanical or production maintenance (planned and reactive).
  • Experience supervising contractors and applying permit-to-work systems.
Qualifications
  • Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Facilities management experience.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering.
  • Electrical maintenance knowledge.
  • Confined space training.
  • Welding skills.
