We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences, and backgrounds help us learn and better serve our customers and communities.

If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our Waste Water Recycling team has a great opportunity for you to join as our new Mechanical Maintenance Technician.

The position offers a chance to be part of a forward-thinking team working on a variety of equipment and assets, where you will have the opportunity to embrace curiosity and develop new skills outside of your normal day-to-day activities.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring our treatment processes work optimally to deliver important work that enhances our region's rivers. The role will include:

  • Proactively and reactively maintaining mechanical assets onsite.
  • Pumps, chemical dosing, gearboxes, high-pressure systems, gas systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, valves, motors, generators, drive belts, conveyors, scrapers.
  • Fabrication, lubrication, and welding activities.
  • Continuously improving the mechanical asset base.
  • Completing lifting operations safely as per LOLER regulations.
  • Fault finding and diagnostics.
  • Interpreting and updating mechanical drawings.
  • Supporting the design and build of new processes.
  • Owning site mechanical performance.
  • Monitoring treatment processes using SCADA systems and acting on alarms as required.
  • Reviewing the health and availability of assets proactively.
  • Ensuring all relevant training, including mechanical and maintenance, is up to date.

You will be based at one of our main sewage treatment works depending on your home location and will be provided with a vehicle for business use, laptop, safety clothing, and tools appropriate to the job.

The core working hours are Monday to Friday, with participation in a 24/7 standby rota.

As part of your ongoing professional development, you will be required to upskill as an LV/HV SAP, which will come with an additional allowance on top of your basic salary.

So, if you care about the environment, are curious about how things work, and have the courage to challenge ways of working, we are confident you will be proud to work for Severn Trent.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

Along with your experience, you must hold:

  • A full UK driving licence.

You should know how to work with process control systems and have a working knowledge of industrial mechanical installation requirements and standards. Experience working with various IT systems used in our operations will be beneficial.

You must have sound diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Basic instrumentation skills are desirable but not essential, as there will be opportunities to upskill and develop a second skill set.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, as diverse minds, experiences, and backgrounds help us learn and better serve our communities.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognize great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. We’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and communities where we live.

Here are some of our favorite perks:

  • Starting salary of £38,573
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (with options to buy or sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £1,500, subject to eligibility)
