Job description

Within our Building Services department, we are looking for a new Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to provide preventative and reactive maintenance across our Clifton Campus.

In this role, you will use your qualifications, skills, and experience to carry out planned maintenance to help avoid issues and react to and rectify any faults across the campus.

You will work closely with maintenance technicians and help desk coordinators to schedule and prioritise jobs whilst also responding to any emergency situations on a day-to-day basis. As a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter, you will use the University’s building management system (BMS) to monitor and record data from critical plant and equipment across the estate. You will also respond and attend to faults and alarms automatically generated by the system.

Building Services plays a key role in ensuring things work as they should for our staff and students. We aim to resolve any issues as quickly, safely, and efficiently as possible, ensuring customer satisfaction at all times. This role would suit an experienced mechanical fitter who is looking for a new, varied opportunity working with a friendly, supportive team.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for investigating and rectifying mechanical faults to all of the University’s building services. You will identify whether it is possible to solve the problem yourself, or whether you need to escalate the issue to the Maintenance Manager.

The work is varied and can be unpredictable but examples of the day-to-day duties include:

  1. Resolving local heating issues
  2. Rectifying large and smaller heating system faults and failures
  3. Investigating water leaks from sinks, roofs, pipes, basins, waste pipes, toilets, showers, or baths
  4. Investigating and repairing building drainage issues
  5. Responding to ventilation faults and performance issues
  6. Fixing any hot and cold water generation and circulation issues
  7. Performing planned preventative maintenance tasks

You should apply if

You have significant experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial building services. You will hold a recognised mechanical qualification such as City & Guilds Level 2, Mechanical or BTEC Level 2. You will also hold a full driving license.

Alongside your technical skills and qualifications, you will be a team player with excellent customer service skills who is able to manage your own workload. You will also have a logical approach to fault finding and problem-solving.

Benefits of working in this role for the University include:

  1. 30 days of annual leave per year (plus bank holidays)
  2. Automatic entry to a generous pension scheme
  3. A group of family-friendly policies including generous maternity, adoption, and surrogacy leave options, the ability to take paid shared parental leave, up to two weeks paternity/partner leave, leave to support fertility treatment, and paid dependents/caregivers leave
  4. Inclusive culture, valuing the diversity of thought, beliefs, and backgrounds
