Mechanical Maintenance Engineering Lead, Chesterfield

Degree Educated Engineer

Our client is an international manufacturer with a site in Chesterfield. They are recruiting for the following role:

Purpose

To provide the site with technical support to develop equipment, technology, and site standards, ensuring product consistency, equipment reliability, and maximized asset capability.

  • Imparting and coaching process knowledge to teams.
  • Supervising the mechanical engineering team to achieve high standards of operation and maintenance, minimizing downtime within budget and resource constraints.
  • Problem solving to identify root causes safely and effectively, meeting business needs. Providing future proofing through projects and upgrades for site plant and processes.
  • Deputising for the Engineering Manager when necessary.

The mechanical lead plays a key role in achieving production and downtime targets, driving positive change by refining the PPM system, investigating mechanical failures, and learning from past events. Ensuring proper control of spares procurement and refurbishment of repairable items, both in-house and external. Assisting with the specification, installation, and commissioning of CAPEX projects to improve the site. The Mechanical Lead works closely with the Engineering Manager and is expected to deputise when familiar with site operations.

About the Person

The ideal candidate can handle multiple work streams, prioritise tasks based on business needs, and possesses in-depth technical knowledge and experience in heavy engineering. Experience with pumps, bearings, and rotating equipment is essential; knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, compressors, overhead cranes, and high-pressure steam systems is advantageous.

Ambitious and positive, the candidate should be confident in leading a team of six mechanical engineers and developing a mechanical apprentice. Responsibilities include producing weekly plans for PPM and reactive work, and managing improvement projects. A dedicated and approachable attitude is essential for success.

Required Qualifications and Certifications

Minimum HND in Mechanical Engineering. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
