Job summary

Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd – Carlisle is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our Carlisle factory. The role focuses on maintaining equipment to ensure safe operation, production efficiency, and quality standards.

You will work within the Maintenance Department under the direction of the Maintenance Leadership Team to improve safety, quality and overall efficiency. The successful candidate will have time-served mechanical engineering qualifications, HP/3-year experience, and knowledge of

Qualifications

• Time served mechanical engineer with relevant technical qualification.
• HNC qualification or equivalent industrial experience.
• Experience maintaining and fault finding on industrial machinery.
• Experience maintaining hydraulic systems.
• Experience maintaining pneumatic systems.
• Experience maintaining industrial drive systems (gearboxes, chains, belts).
• Machining or fabrication experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure completion of departmental maintenance tasks: repairs, setups, preventive checks and new installations.
• Inspect, assess and act on planned work, modifications and breakdowns.
• Install and commission new machinery with plant/process engineering staff.
• Ensure adherence to policy and regulations, especially health & safety.
• Complete tasks assigned by supervisor and follow SOPs.
• Attend training and development activities as required.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd – Carlisle

One of Europe’s leading tyre manufacturers, Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd, is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join us at our Carlisle factory.

The successful applicant will work 40 hours per week, from 08:00-16:00 Monday to Friday.

Working within the Maintenance Department, and with the support and direction of the Maintenance Leadership Team, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will ensure all equipment is operating to the required standards to ensure safe operation and to maintain production requirements and quality standards.

The objective is to improve the Safety, Quality and Overall Efficiency of the department, concentrating primarily on the maintenance aspects that can contribute to this improvement.

Main duties include (but are not limited to):

• Ensuring the correct completion of departmental maintenance tasks e.g. machine repairs, set ups, preventative maintenance checks and new installations
• Inspecting, assessing and taking action on planned work, modifications and breakdowns
• Installation and commissioning of new machinery in liaison with plant and process engineering staff
• Ensuring adherence to Company policy and statutory regulations especially in areas of Health, Safety and Engineering practice
• Completing all tasks as assigned by the supervisor
• Following all standard operating procedures of working
• Attending relevant training and development activities as required

Although predominantly working days, candidates must also have the flexibility to cover a 3 shift rotating pattern and weekends when necessary.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following abilities:

Education and professional background:

• Time served mechanical engineer with appropriate Technical qualification
• HNC qualified or 3 years industrial experience
• Experience of maintaining and fault finding on industrial machinery
• Experience of maintaining hydraulic systems
• Experience of maintaining pneumatic systems
• Experience of maintaining industrial drive systems (gearboxes/sprockets/chains/belts etc.)
• Machining (lathe/milling machine) experience desirable
• Fabrication experience desirable

• A sound problem solving ability
• Good communication and people management skills
• Sound technical knowledge of the processes and machinery
• Self-motivated, focussed and able to work on own initiative
• High level of resilience and able to work effectively under pressure
