Synergi Search & Select is partnering with a well‑established UK manufacturing business to recruit a Mechanical Bias Maintenance Engineer. You will be responsible for keeping production machinery running safely and efficiently through planned maintenance, breakdown response, and continuous improvement support within a heavy industrial recycling and production environment.

Job Role & Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Mechanical Bias Maintenance Engineer to join a busy engineering team within a heavy industrial recycling and production environment. This is a hands‑on role where you will be responsible for keeping production machinery running safely and efficiently, carrying out planned maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support across production machinery.

• Work on a range of mechanical equipment including shredders, conveyors, augers, motors, and heavy plant machinery.

• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults quickly and effectively to reduce downtime.

• Support routine checks, blade changes, safety checks, and general engineering tasks.

• Work closely with supervisors and the wider engineering team to keep production moving.

• Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with site procedures.

• Contribute ideas and suggestions for machinery improvements and process efficiency.

• Support basic electrical maintenance where required, depending on experience.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

• Strong mechanical engineering experience within a manufacturing, recycling, heavy plant, industrial, or similar production environment.

• A mechanical bias with a hands‑on approach to maintenance and repairs.

• Experience working on conveyors, augers, motors, shredders, or similar heavy machinery.

• The ability to diagnose faults and work calmly under pressure.

• A proactive, reliable, and flexible attitude.

• The confidence to work both independently and as part of a small engineering team.

• Basic electrical skills would be beneficial, although training can be provided.

Desirable Skills:

• Previous experience in a heavy industrial or recycling environment.

• Basic electrical fault‑finding or maintenance skills.

• Forklift licence, although training may be provided.

• Experience working with planned maintenance systems.

• Understanding of both reactive and preventative maintenance duties.
