Job description

Roles and Responsibilities:

An Engineer at Design and Safety Limited will be at the forefront of designing and refining advanced mechanical components, structures and systems for challenging nuclear/defence/marine infrastructure projects.

Your role will involve leveraging the latest technologies and methodologies to ensure the highest standards of performance and safety taking into consideration all credible hazards and risks.

Your responsibilities will encompass the entire lifecycle of projects, from initial design and development to rigorous testing and final implementation. You will collaborate closely with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, including electrical and structural engineers, project managers and Clients.

You will have a drive to manage your own work and encourage others to meet agreed timescales.

You will be expected to have a desire to learn, participate in professional development and work towards Chartered status of a relevant Engineering Institution which you be supported in doing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovate and design mechanical systems and components tailored to meet the specific needs of our industrial and defence infrastructure projects. This can be on new or existing systems.
  • Creation of CAD models, detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Undertake calculations and analysis using latest FEA, pipe stress analysis, etc. to demonstrate performance and compliance.
  • To ensure deliverables meet client requirements, codes, standards and legislation.
  • Product Testing - Conduct simulations and physical testing to validate designs and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Carry out site visits and surveys to confirm ‘as-builts’ and to inspect implemented designs.
  • Produce Design Reports that validate performance and reliability, buildability and maintainability.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified to, or working towards, degree BEng (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and learning skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Must be a UK Citizen and able to meet National Security Clearance requirements.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • MEng in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in mechanical design and development in the Marine, Nuclear or other Regulated sectors.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
