Job summary

Galliford Try AVRS is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join our team across Thames & Anglian Water regions. The role involves site-based mechanical installations, interpretation of drawings, and supporting apprentices.

Travel to multiple sites is required, with a focus on safety, quality, and long-term project delivery. The position offers permanent employment, opportunities for growth, and the chance to contribute to high-value water treatment projects within a leading contractor group.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret mechanical drawings and complete installations with minimal supervision.
  • Promote AVRS’s safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coach and support Mechanical Improvers and Apprentices.
  • Work as part of a growing team to deliver project outcomes.

Mechanical Fitter - AVRS

Competitive hourly rates | Contracted hours: 42 per week (Monday–Friday) | Paid travel time in addition to contracted hours

We currently have two opportunities to join our team at AVRS within the Thames & Anglian Water region (travel across both regions required)

Both roles involve site-based work, travel, and contributing to high-quality projects across their respective regions.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join AVRS, part of the Galliford Try group. Following several long-term framework awards, we are looking for ambitious individuals with a strong industrial background to support long-term projects within the Water Treatment Sector.

Projects range from £5k to £10m, where we act as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, as well as supporting Tier 1 contractor clients. This is a permanent position, offering stability and growth within a thriving team.

What you will be doing:
  • Carrying out mechanical installation works to the highest safety and workmanship standards.
  • Interpreting mechanical drawings and completing installations with minimal supervision.
  • Promoting and contributing to AVRS’s strong safety culture.
  • Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and industry regulations.
  • Coaching and supporting Mechanical Improvers and Apprentices.
  • Working as part of a growing, motivated team to deliver successful project outcomes.
About You:
Essential
  • Strong ability to interpret mechanical installation drawings.
  • Relevant electrical trade qualifications.
  • Industrial installation experience.
  • CSCS, ECS, or CCNSG card.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • High attention to detail with strong technical ability.
  • A commitment to safety, quality, and doing things right first time.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites and stay away when required.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable
  • SSSTS (or equivalent).
  • EUSR Water Hygiene.
  • Water industry experience.
  • PASMA / IPAF / Confined Space certification.
  • Fitness-to-work medical.
  • Emergency First Aid or First Aider qualification.
