Job summary

Altrad Services A/S is seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters for outage works in the UK. The role involves 38 hours per week, with mobilisation on 12/10/2026, and NAECI-based pay with lodge and travel where applicable.

Responsibilities include reading drawings, assembling and testing mechanical plant, handling heat exchanger components, flange management, and safe operation of workshop equipment. Strong safety and teamwork ethos are essential.

Qualifications

• Completed mechanical fitting apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification.
• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting or ACE/association certification.
• CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent safety certification.
• Minimum two years' experience in installation, assembly, maintenance and overhaul of mechanical plant.
• Experience with heat exchangers, valves and related systems desirable.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings and maintenance docs to determine work requirements.
• Carry out assembly, installation, maintenance, overhaul and testing of mechanical plant and equipment.
• Assist with removal and replacement of heat exchanger components and bundles.
• Support safe extraction and reinstatement of heat exchanger bundles.
• Perform strip down, inspection, rebuild and installation of mechanical equipment.
• Conduct pressure and leak testing per site procedures.
• Assist with flange management including bolt tightening and gasket installation.
• Carry out precision alignment, lining and leveling of equipment.
• Use hand and machine tools to shape and fit components.
• Operate workshop equipment (lathes, drills, pipe prep) if trained.
• Conduct fault finding and adjustments per approved procedures.
• Support Safety Valve Team and valve maintenance activities.
• Prepare work areas and ensure safety requirements are met.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety.

About The Role

Altrad are currently looking for experienced Mechanical Fitters to join the team for Outage Works.

This role will involve working 38 hours per week (Monday-Friday) Mobilisation Start Date 12/10/2026.

The position is paid under the NAECI agreement, with lodge and travel paid where applicable.

Key Deliverables:

• Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, general arrangement drawings, P&IDs, maintenance documentation and method statements to determine work requirements.
• Carry out the assembly, installation, maintenance, overhaul and testing of mechanical plant and equipment.
• Assist with the removal and replacement of heat exchanger components, including channel covers, pipework, studs, gaskets and associated equipment.
• Support the safe extraction and reinstatement of heat exchanger bundles using appropriate lifting and handling techniques.
• Perform strip down, inspection, rebuild and installation activities on heat exchangers, valves and associated mechanical equipment.
• Carry out pressure testing and leak testing of equipment where required, ensuring compliance with site procedures and quality standards.
• Assist with flange management activities, including bolt tightening and gasket installation.
• Carry out precision alignment, lining and levelling of mechanical plant and equipment.
• Use hand and machine tools to shape, prepare, assemble and fit mechanical components.
• Operate workshop equipment including lathes, drills and pipe preparation machinery where appropriately trained and authorised.
• Conduct testing, fault finding and adjustment of mechanical plant and equipment using approved procedures.
• Support the Safety Valve Team when required, including the removal and replacement of pressure safety valves.
• Assist with the safe handling and transportation of valves to and from test facilities.
• Support the reinstatement and leak testing of pressure safety valves following maintenance and testing activities.
• Prepare work areas, materials and equipment prior to commencing activities, ensuring all safety requirements are met.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved method statements, risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, POWRA requirements and site safety procedures.
• Reinstate equipment and work areas to a safe condition following completion of work activities.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping within work areas throughout the work scope.
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety observations and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify and report defects, issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide guidance and support to Mechanical Fitter Trainees where required.
• Work closely with clients, supervisors, coordinators and other disciplines to ensure work scopes are completed safely and efficiently.
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality and workmanship at all times.

Key Requirements / Qualifications:

• General secondary education or equivalent.
• Completed a recognised Mechanical Fitting Apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification.
• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting, ACE Card or equivalent industry-recognised certification.
• Valid CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent site-required safety certification.
• Minimum two years' experience in the installation, assembly, maintenance and overhaul of mechanical plant and equipment.
• Experience in the maintenance, overhaul and installation of heat exchangers, valves and associated mechanical systems.
• Experience with heat exchanger component removal, bundle extraction and reinstatement activities is desirable.
• Experience with flange management, gasket installation, bolt tightening, pressure testing and leak testing is desirable.
• Previous experience working with pressure safety valves or supporting valve maintenance activities is desirable.
• Experience within the oil & gas, petrochemical, thermal power generation or nuclear sectors is desirable.
• Understanding of Human Performance principles and safe working practices.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications and maintenance documentation.
• Understanding of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Critical Task training and site-specific authorisations as required by the project.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, supervision and other disciplines.
• Strong attention to detail when assembling, testing and inspecting mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, quality, housekeeping and continuous improvement.
