Job description

Mechanical Fitter - Dover - c£40k - £45k+ - door to door - O/T

The position is full time (40 hours per week minimum), and includes plenty of overtime opportunities, door to door travel, and a call-out rota system (1:6). There are 25 days of annual leave, plus the statutory bank holidays included (33 in total), with immediate enrolment into the company pension scheme.

This company specializes in mechanical and electrical sitework, workshop repair, and service provision across major M&E industries such as Water, Power, Oil & Gas, Food, and Paper. They offer comprehensive project management services, including Principal Contractor and Principal Designer roles under CDM 2015.

Due to ongoing growth, they are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to cover East Sussex. This is a mobile, hands-on role in Mechanical Engineering.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  1. Dismantle various mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, and screens.
  2. Inspect dismantled components, measure tolerances, shaft run-outs, and determine repair methods.
  3. Perform fault finding on equipment such as pumps and gearboxes, with specialist equipment provided by the company.
  4. Under the guidance of the Operations Manager, carry out repairs and refurbishment of mechanical equipment.
  5. Work on Water Utility, Power Industry, Food, Paper, Petroleum, and Government sites as part of a mechanical and electrical team.
  6. Handle onsite removal and installation of mechanical equipment, including work at heights and in confined spaces, sewerage, and potable water environments.

Candidate requirements include:

  1. Ideally a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably with a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship. Experience in Water Utilities and/or Power Industry is advantageous.
  2. Full UK driving license.
  3. Understanding of onsite health and safety regulations.
  4. Confined space training or good understanding of confined spaces; training can be provided.
  5. Watery Hygiene training or good understanding of sewerage/clean water hygiene; training can be provided.
  6. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively within a team.
  7. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
