Job summary

UK Space Jobs is recruiting for a Fitter / Tester to join a Yeovil-based aerospace operation. You will perform mechanical assembly and testing of Life Support and Environmental Control equipment on a day shift, following engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.

You will work in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment, ensuring quality, safety and on-time delivery while supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a Lean team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical fitting applications.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.
  • Familiarity with pressure testing and safe working practices.
  • Understanding safety-critical manufacturing in aerospace is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Produce aerospace products according to drawings and instructions.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting and assembly activities.
  • Test Life Support and Environmental Control systems.
  • Conduct pressure testing as required and interpret results.
  • Adhere to quality systems and OCQ checks.
  • Maintain health and safety standards within a Lean environment.
  • Support continuous improvement and collaborative problem solving.

Job description

I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a leading aerospace operation in Yeovil specialising in the manufacture and support of safety-critical aerospace systems, including Life Support and Environmental Control equipment. I am looking for an experienced Fitter / Tester to join their day-shift manufacturing team, carrying out mechanical assembly and testing to exacting engineering, customer and regulatory standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Fitter / Tester with a strong mechanical background to work within a highly regulated aerospace manufacturing environment. You will work as part of an empowered team, ensuring equipment is assembled, tested and delivered on time while maintaining the required quality and safety standards.

As a Fitter / Tester, Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Producing aerospace products in accordance with engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions
  • Carrying out mechanical fitting and assembly activities
  • Testing Life Support and Environmental Control Systems equipment
  • Undertaking pressure testing as required
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, process layouts and associated manufacturing documentation
  • Carrying out Operator Control of Quality (OCQ), including confirming assemblies meet the required customer and quality standards
  • Ensuring work is completed on time and to the required standard
  • Following established company processes and procedures
  • Maintaining a consistently high standard of Health & Safety
  • Working effectively within a Lean manufacturing environment
  • Supporting continuous improvement activities
  • Working Collaboratively With Designers, Engineers And Other Members Of The Manufacturing Team
For This Fitter / Tester Opportunity, I Am Looking For Candidates Who Can Demonstrate
  • Previous knowledge and practical experience of mechanical fitting applications
  • Knowledge of pressure testing
  • An Engineering Apprenticeship would be desirable but is not essential
  • An understanding of aerospace practices and the importance of safety-critical manufacturing
  • The ability to interpret and work accurately from engineering drawings
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements
  • Good teamwork skills, flexibility and the ability to use initiative
  • Experience working within a customer-focused environment and achieving targets
  • PC literacy
  • A commitment to continuous improvement
  • The ability to consistently follow controlled manufacturing processes and procedures

Further training will be provided where required, including company operating systems, PC skills, Manual Handling, 5S, operating principles and general Health & Safety.

The successful Fitter / Tester will be required to meet the eligibility conditions associated with Export Control Licences and Technical Assistance Agreements.

This Fitter / Tester position also requires full Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) screening, including:
  • Proof of legal right to work
  • UK DBS criminal records check
  • Drugs screening
