Key Responsibilities
  • Precision Assembly and Refurbishment: Assembly, repair, and refurbishment of a diverse range of mechanical components and heavy machinery. This involves working with engineering drawings to understand specifications.
  • Equipment Overhaul and Maintenance: Performing comprehensive overhauls of critical equipment such as industrial gearboxes, drive assemblies, conveyors, various crushers, winches, and fluid power machines. This includes stripping, reporting on condition, and rebuilding to original or improved specifications.
  • Quality Assurance and Testing: Bringing overhauled and repaired items back up to specification through rigorous testing and quality checks, ensuring all components meet our stringent performance and safety standards.
  • Materials Handling Specialisation: Working extensively with all aspects of materials handling equipment, including the construction and fitting of large-scale components like conveyors and rollers, often destined for significant industrial installations such as power stations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Applying knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems in the context of assembly and fitting.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will possess a background in mechanical fitting and ideally a track record in heavy equipment environments. We are looking for candidates with:

  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience as a Mechanical Fitter, ideally within the heavy equipment, mining, quarrying, or similar industrial sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with the assembly, maintenance, overhaul, and refurbishment of industrial gearboxes, drives, conveyors, crushers, winches, and fluid power systems.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems as they relate to mechanical assembly and fitting.
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety and a thorough understanding of relevant safety protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
